PTA Planning Meeting June 26, 2016

In attendance:

Stephanie Jackson, Margaret Karis, Amy Halley, Jen Pasion, Susan Oliver, Amanda Lutz, Stephanie Bradford, Cynthia Anderson, Lindsay Hudges (by phone), Laura Childs, Sarah Frey,  LeeAnn Roush

Meeting called to order at 6:05.

Introductions with positions.

Treasurer Report: Balance as of 6/21/16 is $11197.13. Have $246.43 in outstanding checks. Earmarked $1500 for leveled readers and $7500 for this year’s club to operate ($4000 to purchase spirit wear and $3500 to cover regular expenses. Leaving $2350.70 to spend. Last year’s board talked about a speaker system for the gym.

Need a committee to review last years financials and records. Amy Halley volunteered.

Fundraising – Talked about possible items to fundraise for this school year. Listed are some items that were mentioned by the staff: blacktops, shades for playground, new playground, colored printers for each grade level, subscriptions to online resources, general purpose copier, science materials, apps for iPads, accelerated math, ADD/ADHD equipment, more iPads, listening stations, extended shelter for car rider line, poster maker machine.

There was mention of doing a science themed project for 3-5 and an ELA based project for K-2. We talked about playground, but the general consensus was that we are starting too late for a project that size and maybe doing some grant writing for a playground project next year.

Talked about doing the walk-a-thon, movie mornings, and fall/spring carnival for the upcoming school year. Talked about switching timeframe for the walk-a-thon and have it earlier in the year to get the big projects done.  No decision was made.

TLC car wash cards also mentioned; $10 ea for a car wash and we keep $5. Mrs. Anderson talked about wanting to eventually do a 5K fun run at the school. Susan said that a boosterthon was a huge success at a prior school. Yard sale/craft fair mentioned.

Committee News – Susan has proposed box top dates. We will have collect each 9 week period with winning class getting $25 to spend how the class chooses. We also will do collection on September 9th for the Barnes & Noble gift card.

Amanda will be working on the spirit wear. Looking to include this year’s theme in the artwork. “Learning is a journey”. Talked about possibly selling water bottles, large utility tote, etc. No decision was made on more than just t-shirts.

Jen will get a sign-up genius set up for Back to School luncheon. Luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 24th. We want stuff to be at school by 10.

Lindsay talked about trying to set up a google doc form to put in teacher classrooms at Meet and Greet. There will be an opt-in button to share contact information with PTA.

Change the name of Volunteer Spot to Coffee and Copies to encourage moms with young ones at home to come participate.  Laura  volunteered to be the Coffee and Copies coordinator.
